Pilgrimage Journey of Mt Kailash and Mansarovar
From the 2018, the border at Rasuwagadi to Kerung has been opened for travelers. This has eased the journey to Kailash and made it more convenient and accessible. In 2015, following the damages by earthquake, the border at Kodari, was closed making it difficult for travelers and public alike. The current route from Rasuwagadi to Kerung can be done is a 14 days package from Kathmandu. The Kerung border is about 175 km drive from Kathmandu which due to ongoing construction works takes around 8-9 hours. Kerung is located at 3,000 meters which allows you to acclimatize before reaching the Tibetan plateau at an average of 4000 m. Once in Tibet, the drive is pleasant and scenic via the villages of Saga, Mansarovar and Darchen before reaching the magnificent Mt Kailash and Manasarovar area.
